We understand that the personal injury and wrongful death field is filled with loud, sometimes outrageous, voices and bold, sometime ridiculous, claims.  It is difficult for non-lawyers to know which (if any) of the lawyers they have heard of have the skills and the resources to successfully prosecute a personal injury or wrongful death claim against well-funded insurance companies or self-insured corporate defendants.

Meet the Firm’s Leaders

John A. Day

John A. Day is the founder of The Law Offices of John Day, P.C. A graduate with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law and a certified Civil Trial Specialist, he has built a national reputation handling complex, high-stakes injury and wrongful death cases. His leadership includes serving as President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, Chair of the Council of State Presidents of the American Association for Justice, and President of the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  In October 2025 he was installed as the 76th President of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the preeminent, invitation-only organization of trial lawyers in the United States and Canada. Mr. Day is also a prolific author and educator, having delivered more than 400 continuing legal education programs nationwide and written leading legal treatises frequently cited Tennessee courts. He has been named in Best Lawyers in America for over thirty years.

Laura B. Baker

Laura Baker is a Shareholder at the Law Offices of John Day and a highly accomplished trial lawyer with nearly two decades of experience representing clients in complex personal injury, wrongful death, and tort litigation throughout Tennessee. She has successfully handled hundreds of serious injury cases, including medical malpractice and products liability matters, and has earned widespread recognition for her results and leadership, including consistent selection to Best Lawyers in America, designation as a Mid-South Super Lawyer every year since 2013, and repeated honors among the Top 50 Women Lawyers, Top 50 Nashville Super Lawyers, and Top 100 Lawyers in Tennessee. Mrs. Baker holds an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been repeatedly recognized by the Nashville Business Journal, including nine “Best of the Bar” selections and inclusion among Nashville’s “40 Under 40.” A past president of the Nashville Bar Association, she is also a respected leader in the legal community, having chaired major access-to-justice initiatives, led record-setting fundraising efforts for Legal Aid, and been honored by the Tennessee Supreme Court for her pro bono service.

Brandon E. Bass

Brandon E. Bass is a highly respected trial attorney with more than twenty years of experience representing individuals and families in serious personal injury and wrongful death cases across Tennessee. A graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, he has secured tens of millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts and is widely recognized for combining exceptional courtroom skill with a deeply client-centered approach. His accomplishments have earned him consistent recognition among the state’s elite trial lawyers, including selection to Super Lawyers every year since 2013 with repeated placement among the Top 50 Nashville and Top 100 Tennessee attorneys, as well as recognition by Best Lawyers in America since 2016 in medical malpractice, personal injury, and product liability litigation, along with the highest peer-review ratings from Martindale-Hubbell and Avvo.
