Like many places in Tennessee, there are relatively few personal injury, wrongful death and other types of tort cases tried in Williamson County. Below is information on the tort cases tried in the 21st Judicial District:

For the 2010-2011 reporting period, 261 tort cases were filed (claims for wrongful death or personal injury) in Williamson County and 5 cases were tried. The injury victim won 2 of those cases, and the average award was $28,391.00. For the 2011-2012 reporting period, 246 tort cases were filed in Williamson County and 3 cases went to trial. There was only a single verdict for a plaintiff and the award in that case was a mere $2,000.00. For 2012-2013, 235 tort cases were filed and 8 were tried. The injured party received compensation in only 4 cases and the average award was $45,430.00. For the 2013-2014 reporting year, 237 tort cases were filed, three were tried and only one resulted in a verdict for the accident victim. The damages awarded in that single case were $22,997.00. The 2014-2015 calendar year was very similar, 255 tort cases were filed, 4 were tried and 2 were won by the injury victim. Those two trials resulted in an verdict average of $39,913.00.  For 2015-2016, 261 tort cases were filed, 4 went to trial, and 3 of those plaintiff's were awarded an average of $41,358.  During the 2016-2017 calendar year, 338 injury or death cases were filed and two went to trial.  The injury victims or plaintiffs won both of those trials, and the average award was $42,806.   In 2017-2018, 325 tort cases were filed and five went to trial.  The injury victims won four of those trials, and the size of the average award increased to $68,602.  Last year, 326 tort case were filed and eight went to trial.  The injury victims won 3 of the eight, and the average award increased dramatically to $4,199, 054 thanks to a case handled by our office on behalf of an horribly injured pedestrian.  The other two verdicts in Williamson County were substantially less: one was less than $100,000, and the other was less than $1,000,000.
