Build practical skills for every stage of a civil case at Fundamentals of Civil Litigation, a one-day CLE seminar designed to give attorneys practical strategies they can put to work in their practice. Led by experienced trial lawyers John Day, Brandon Bass, and Laura Baker, the program will cover the civil litigation process from building a strong professional reputation and developing a case from day one through discovery, expert witnesses, motion practice, trial preparation, and trial.
Attendees will earn 7 hours of CLE credit and 1 hour of Dual/Ethics credit. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

About the Speakers
John Day
John A. Day is the founder and owner of The Law Offices of John Day, P.C. and has practiced personal injury and wrongful death law since 1981. A board-certified Civil Trial Specialist, John currently serves as the 76th President of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is also a past President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is a member of the American Law Institute.
John is the author of Day on Torts, Tennessee Law of Civil Trial, and Tennessee Law of Wrongful Death and co-author of Tennessee Law of Comparative Fault. He has written extensively on tort law and civil procedure and has presented more than 300 continuing legal education programs across the country.
John has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® since 1993 and has received multiple “Lawyer of the Year” honors. He has also been named among the Top 100 Lawyers in Tennessee by Mid-South Super Lawyers and has maintained an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell since 1993.
John earned his law degree with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the North Carolina Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
Brandon Bass
Brandon E. Bass is a shareholder at The Law Offices of John Day, P.C., where his practice focuses on complex personal injury litigation, including medical negligence, product liability, and commercial vehicle cases. He has extensive experience handling cases through discovery, expert testimony, negotiation, and trial.
Brandon served as President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) and was previously named the association’s Outstanding Trial Lawyer of the Year. He has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. A frequent CLE speaker and author, Brandon has delivered more than 100 presentations to lawyers throughout the Southeast on civil litigation, trial practice, discovery, damages, and tort law.
Laura Baker
Laura Baker is a shareholder and trial attorney at the Law Offices of John Day, P.C. With decades of experience, she represents individuals and families in personal injury and wrongful death cases involving car and truck crashes, unsafe property conditions, medical negligence, and defective products.
Laura is known for her strategic approach to litigation, careful preparation, and thorough legal analysis. Her work has earned recognition from her peers and professional organizations, including selection as a Mid-South Super Lawyer in Personal Injury since 2013 and recognition by The Best Lawyers in America for plaintiff personal injury litigation. She has also been named among the Top 50 Nashville Super Lawyers, Top 100 Tennessee Super Lawyers, and Top 50 Women Super Lawyers in the Mid-South.
