Build practical skills for every stage of a civil case at Fundamentals of Civil Litigation, a one-day CLE seminar designed to give attorneys practical strategies they can put to work in their practice. Led by experienced trial lawyers John Day, Brandon Bass, and Laura Baker, along with a judicial panel, the program will cover the civil litigation process from building a strong professional reputation and developing a case from day one through discovery, expert witnesses, motion practice, trial preparation, negotiation, and settlement.
Attendees will earn 7 hours of CLE credit, including 1 hour of dual/ethics credit. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

About the Speakers
John Day
John A. Day is the founder and owner of The Law Offices of John Day, P.C. and an experienced Tennessee trial lawyer whose practice focuses on personal injury, wrongful death, and select commercial litigation matters. He currently serves as the 76th President of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a member of the Tennessee Supreme Court Advisory Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure.
A frequent author and lecturer on Tennessee tort law and civil litigation, John has written several books for Tennessee lawyers, including Day on Torts and Tennessee Law of Civil Trial, and has delivered more than 300 CLE presentations across the country. He earned his J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the North Carolina Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif.
Brandon Bass
Brandon E. Bass is a shareholder at The Law Offices of John Day, P.C., where his practice focuses on complex personal injury litigation, including medical negligence, product liability, and commercial vehicle cases. He has extensive experience handling cases through discovery, expert testimony, negotiation, and trial.
Brandon served as President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) and was previously named the association’s Outstanding Trial Lawyer of the Year. He has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. A frequent CLE speaker and author, Brandon has delivered more than 100 presentations to lawyers throughout the Southeast on civil litigation, trial practice, discovery, damages, and tort law.
Laura Baker
Laura B. Baker is a shareholder at The Law Offices of John Day, P.C., where she has practiced for 18 years representing clients in personal injury, wrongful death, and tort litigation throughout Tennessee. She has handled hundreds of cases involving motor vehicle accidents, medical negligence, product liability, premises liability, and other complex injury matters.
Laura is aPast President of the Nashville Bar Associationand previously served as President of the Lawyers’ Association for Women. She helped establish the Nashville Bar Association’s Friday Fundamentals program, a 13-week program designed to help new lawyers transition from law school to practice, and received the NBA President’s Award for her work on the program. A frequent CLE presenter, Laura has spoken on civil litigation topics including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, case management, and trial preparation. She has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and the Nashville Business Journal.
